UK Friends of Schneider Children’s Hospital held its inaugural function in a packed hall in Ner Israel in Hendon in November 2008.Guests were delighted to welcome Prof. Isaac Yaniv, Director of the Hemato-Oncology Department at Schneider Children’s, who flew in from Israel especially for the event. Prof. Yaniv made a moving presentation about the work and efforts of his department, noting that today, almost 85% of children with childhood cancer can be cured.
Also participating in the special event was Ziva Caspi, Coordinator of Friends of Schneider Children’s based at the hospital in Israel, who also traveled to London for the occasion.
Beyond the superb addresses, an excellent film about the hospital was screened, and James Hicks, an art critique, entertained the guests with an interesting and enlightening audio visual show on the artist Mark Rothko.
The evening was a great success with a significant amount raised towards the Oncology Department, and placed UK Friends of Schneider Children’s firmly on the map of worthy charities in the UK.
