For the first time, UK Friends of Schneider Children’s Hopsital participated in this years Maccabi GB Community Fun Run. We raised a fantastic amount close to £15,000 for ‘The Family Rose’ project, inspired by Orli Rose, age 10, who is being treated for Hodgkins Lymphoma at Schneider Children’s Medical Centre.
Throughout the day, our runners took part in either a 1km, 5km or 10km race. Our runners and walkers spanned three generations and various abilities, from the youngest participants who crossed the finish line holding their parents hands, to those who trained specifically to take part in the day. Everyone who took part crossed the finish line to a rapturous applause and received their official Maccabi GB Community Fun Run medal.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding day for everyone involved. It was the perfect way for people of all ages to support the amazing work that Schneider Hospital does, not only for Orli, but all the other children treated there.
Event organiser, Maccabi GB's Simone Stein, said “The day had a number of highlights, however, what stood out was seeing Jewish people from all backgrounds and of all ages come together, no matter how often they usually took part in exercise, and run or walk a race which they knew would help raise money for their chosen charity. That feeling is one that you would find hard to top!”
“The event continues to get better and better and planning is already underway to beat this year's record breaking event in 2014, so watch this space!”
