Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Children in Melbourne Celebrate Bar/Batmitzvah to benefit Children at Schneider:

Lee Oz asked all her Bat Mitzvah party guests "in lieu of gifts, please make a donation to Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel". She also added "It is very important for me to make this occasion more meaningful. I chose Schneider Children's Hospital Bat Mitzvah Program because it is about saving children's lives. As I am myself a child, it will be very rewarding to do something for others who are less fortunate than many of us. Schneider Children's would not be able to 'Go the Extra Smile' without the support it receives from individuals like ourselves who appreciate the enormous effort that is required to look after a sick child. I will be handing all the funds collected to Schneider Children's."

Addressing the guests at his Barmitzvah reception, Chaim said: “I think it is nice to be able to help people who need help. Ethiopian kids at Schneider Children’s have come to Israel with very little. They are very innocent and deserve to live a healthy life in Israel and have their dreams come true. I was happy that my donation on the occasion of my Barmitzvah would help overcome their misfortunes of both serious illness and poverty.”

Cohava Rubenstein Sturgess was born in Melbourne and moved to Canberra in 2006 when she was 7 together with her family. Cohava's Batmitzvah was held in the Orthodox synagogue. "In 2010, as I was preparing for my Batmitzvah, I decided that instead of receiving gifts from friends and family, I would like to use my Batmitzvah as a way of helping other people. Rather than choosing one organisation, I nominated three different charities for people to choose from. One was local (the ACT Jewish Community), one was national (Jewish Care) and the third was international - Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel. I first heard about Schneider when another girl had chosen the hospital in the same way for her Batmitzvah. I went online to find out more about Schneider and was very impressed by the work they do. I also spoke with an Israeli friend who is a doctor who recommended it to me also as a very worthy cause. I am really pleased that my family and friends responded well to my request, and I am delighted that all three charities benefited from my Batmitzvah."

Ari Miller also joined the growing number of youngsters sending donations to the hospital. His generous contribution helped to purchase a Microstream CO² Extension for monitoring ETCO² to ventilated patients in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. "I am really fortunate to be healthy so I wanted to help other kids who aren't as fortunate as I am", said Ari.

When Amira Kranz Moshinsky Celebrated her Batmizvah she explained: "I chose to donate to Schneider Children's because it helps children in need. Children must get the treatment they require. We shouldn't take for granted what we have; I decided to mark my Batmizvah by donating to the hospital."

Yonatan Elbaum's donation benefited children in the Educational Center. Yonatansaid: " I am really fortunate to be healthy so I wanted to help other kids at Schneider who aren't as fortunate as I am."

Friends of Schneider express their gratitude and admiration to the Bnei Mitzvah for their thoughtfulness and spirit of giving.
